What metals are the jewelry made of?
We offer 3 metals for most pieces. Rings, pendants and earrings are all made in 925 sterling silver which is given a rhodium plating, 925 sterling silver with a 18k gold vermeil, or 14k yellow gold. Chain necklaces and bracelets come in 925 sterling silver, 925 sterling silver with a 18k gold vermeil, or 14k yellow gold.
What is rhodium plating?
Rhodium is an extraordinarily rare, silvery-white metal. Even though silver does not need to be plated, there are many benefits in plating sterling silver with rhodium. One is that it helps it remain tarnish resistant. Silver tends to tarnish quickly and it frequently needs to be polished in order to retain its shiny luster. Rhodium is highly tarnish resistant and doesn’t change color so plating silver with rhodium helps to keep it very white and avoid tarnishing. It gives it an even higher luster than when not plated. It also increases silver’s durability because rhodium is very hard and silver is soft. This helps make the jewelry scratch resistant. Another reason is that rhodium is a hypoallergenic and while silver is as well, sterling silver contains metal allergens such as nickel. The rhodium acts a as a barrier between the silver and the skin and is a great way to reduce the risk of an allergic reaction.
What is gold vermeil?
We use 24k gold vermeil as a high quality alternative to solid gold. Gold vermeil is a high quality version of gold and has great long lasting wear and affordability. It is also known as “heavy plating” and in order to be considered vermeil it must have 925 sterling silver as its base, the gold must be at least 10k, and the plating needs to have a heavy thickness. Our plating is 2.5 microns thick. Gold vermeil is more expensive than other platings due to its base of sterling silver. This makes it an ideal and excellent alternative to solid gold products. The 24k gold plating also gives a higher yellow color. We are happy to offer this exceptionally beautiful option to customers.
What is 14k gold?
Solid gold is the most expensive gold tone jewelry you could buy. 14k gold is produced from 58.3% pure gold and 41.7% mixture of other metals. It is very resistant to wear and tear and is hard and durable. It is also very unlikely to cause skin allergies. While solid 24k gold is very valuable, due to its malleability, it’s not always the best choice for jewelry that is worn on a regular basis. Therefore, 14k gold is bonded with other metals to create a stronger metal. This makes 14k significantly more durable and has a strong resistance to scratches. This is why we choose to use it.
What stones do you use?
What diamonds do you use?
Our diamonds come from Israel and are conflict-free. They are typically VS1 to VS2 in clarity and are near colorless G-H.
Gemstones?
We use a variety of natural precious and semi-precious gemstones such as cubic zirconia, peridot, garnet, and amethyst, etc.
If you would like a specific stone used for an item please do not hesitate to contact us!
Can you make the items with alternative metals/stones?
Yes! If you see an existing design you love but would like it made in another metal that is not offered (ex. white gold, platinum, 18k gold etc.) or using a different stone (ex. your birthstone, precious stones, diamonds etc.), we would love to work with you on customizing it. We will also tell you the price and lead time.
How do I find my ring size?
Visit a local jeweler
We believe the best and easiest way to find your size is to visit your nearest jeweler or shop and ask them to measure your finger for the best comfortable fit. Remember, every finger has a different size. Make sure to measure the one you want to wear the ring on.
Select the “send ring sizer” option
If you aren’t sure about your ring size, you can also choose the “send ring sizer” option when placing your order. We will then first ship you a small ring sizer to measure with. Once you have the measurement, send it to info@clarabelevan.com and we will begin on the ring you ordered.
Can I get my ring resized?
Yes, we offer a $40 fee for resizing a ring. If you would like to resize, please contact info@clarabelevan.com. Due to the design of certain rings, some are not available to be resized. If this is the case it will be stated in the sizing and shipping section of the item page. Thank you for your understanding.
Do you offer other ring sizes or chain lengths?
Yes, we can definitely make other sizes that are not currently available in the selection. If the ring size is smaller than 5, there will be no additional charge. Please note large sizes over 7 will have longer lead times and there will be a 20%-40% additional charge for labor and material costs. If you would like a shorter or longer necklace length please email us before you order. In most cases, we can modify necklace and bracelet lengths but keep in mind there can be additional charge for most length variations. Please contact us with your request and an invoice will be sent for the order via Stripe.
Jewelry care
925 Silver
We plate our sterling silver in rhodium which is an expensive and rare metal. It gives it extra durability and shine.
Sterling silver tends to oxidize when exposed to elements. You should remove your silver jewelry before exercising or showering. Apply perfume or sprays before putting on your jewelry.
You can clean tarneshing on silver by polishing with a soft, dry, clean cotton cloth or microfiber cloth.
Store them in a cool, dry place such as the box and pouch provided or anything air-tight. Sunlight, heat, and moisture accelerate tarneshing.
Gold Vermeil
Our gold vermeil is 18k gold that is 2.5 microns thick layered over 925 silver. Gold vermeil doesn't tarnish easily but occasionally it does when exposed to moist air or chemicals and will appear as a dark brown spot. However, don't worry, this is easy to remove!
Gently rub it with a soft, dry, clean cotton cloth or microfiber cloth until the tarnish is gone. We recommend not using a treated cloth that contains polishing agents and chemicals meant for silver and gold because it could be too harsh for the gold vermeil.
It is highly recommended to remove your gold vermeil jewelry before exercising and showering. Apply perfume or sprays before putting on your jewelry.
Store them in a cool, dry place such as the box and pouch provided or anything air-tight. Sunlight, heat, and moisture accelerate tarneshing.
Solid gold
Gold is a soft metal and this makes it susceptible to scratches and dents. Be mindful of your gold jewelry while you wear them and remove them while playing any high-contact sports.
To maintain the shine of your solid gold piece, scrub it lightly with a soft-bristled brush using warm water and detergent-free soap. After this gently rub it with a polishing cloth, avoid using a paper towel.
